Hopefully when school starts we will be able to take friendly strolls again.
Eli woke up startled by the barking dog that was once lying comfortably on the couch with him. He rubbed at his eyes glancing at the clock on the wall and hushing the dog seeing that Cece already went upstairs. He watched the dog walk over to the door and sighed. “Really? A walk now?” The dog barked at Eli and he put his hands up. “Fine just stop the barking. Jeez.” Eli got up and found the leash his neighbors left him before opening the door to find it was pretty cold this evening. “You would pick the coldest night to drag me outside, wouldn’t you?” Eli grabbed his jacket and a hat before leashing the dog and putting his phone in his pocket. The moment they got outside the dog began dragging Eli down the sidewalk. “WHOA! SLOW YOUR ROLL PUP! STOP! HEY!” Eli’s feet hit the pavement hard as he tried not to let go of the leash. He knocked over trashcans and cursed under his breath when he hit his hip on a fence trying to keep up. “RUSTY! STOP! HEEL! FOR THE LOVE OF MY LUNGS PLEASE STOP!” Eli continued to yell as they rounded down a few different streets. He hadn’t even taken in his surroundings to where his feet had taken him. “RUSTY! STOP BEFORE I HAVE YOU STUFFED!” The dog halted but Eli’s feet didn’t making him trip over the leash and fall into some trashcans. Eli rolled around and groaned. “Bad dog.” He mumbled stretching out. The dog barked once more and Eli looked at the house realizing who’s trashcans he was sprawled out in. “You can’t be serious.” He looked back at the dog. “Of all the houses in Toronto and you drag me through my ex-girlfriends? As if I need help in THAT area.” Eli said disgusted. “Eli?” Eli looked up quickly and saw Clare standing with a book in her hands and a blanket draped over her arm. He got to his feet quickly and dusted his pants off before picking up the cans. “Yeah hey sorry about that.” Eli gestured to the cans and she looked at the dog. “Did you get a dog?” She asked confused. “No no I’m dog sitting for my neighbor. I was thinking of getting one and this is sort of a trial run.” Eli explained as Clare pet the dog. “I didn’t even know you liked dogs.” She chuckled and Eli gave a faked smile. “Yeah well who doesn’t? Big, fluffy, dependable. Never let’s you down…anyway I’d love to chat but I gotta walk him. See you later.” Eli grabbed the leash and pulled Rusty away from Clare quickly before turning his back on her.
Eli had told Cece he didnt want to take anything for his sore muscles but he did let her put raw meat on his eye which grossed him out but helped his eye. After showering and eating dinner he had everything he needed to go to Clare’s. “Here take the basket with you so Clare feels better. Don’t be too late and make sure you are careful moving around. We dont want you needing physical therapy before school starts up again.” Cece handed him the basket and he shook his head. “Thanks for that Cece. Anything else? This thing weighs a ton.” Eli complained. “Yes one more thing.” Cece kissed his face and he scrunched his face in response. “Yeah yeah I know. Having shiners makes you all sad. I’m fine Mom.” Eli said and Cece rubbed his cheek. “I just dont like my baby’s face all messed up.” Cece said in a saddened tone. “Well depending on who you ask it could be an improvement. But you can baby me when I get home. I have a sick friend I have to hang out with. I wont be too late.” Eli kissed Cece’s cheek before grabbing the basket and Cece’s keys. He drove over to Clare’s excited for her painting but even more excited to introduce her to another movie that has nothing to do with underwashed vampires. He pulled up and parked down the block out of habit and walked up the sidewalk. He knocked on the door and waited for Clare to answer it but the weak smile she had when she sniffled quickly went away upon seeing his face. “Oh my God! What happened to your eye!?” She gripped his face and Eli suddenly felt breathless at the lack of distance between them.

Eli borrowed Cece’s car and headed over to Clare’s house. He was excited to see just how into her new hobby she was. He found it kind of cute picturing a very frustrated Clare painting. She was such a perfectionist that he knew she would expect her artwork to be a masterpiece but he knew that no artist is ever amazing out of the gate. He was also nervous hoping she would forget that letter he had promised to show her that the bride gave him after reading it over a few times. He had written it the night after they threw the secret party and he felt that he was at his deepest in love with her then and he didnt know how Clare would take it. He didnt want to weird her out or upset her. They were doing so well with being friends and he didnt want to ruin anything but naturally he brought along some things to cover in hopes she would forget the letter. He pulled up and saw that there werent any cars parked out front but all the lights were on. He pulled something out of the trunk before walking up to the house and knocking repeatedly trying to annoy Clare who he heard behind the door chuckling and saying “Really?” in a very cute manner. She pulled the door open and Eli couldnt help but smile at her appearance. Her curls were messy and pulled up away from her face but there was still that one piece that never failed at falling from the hair tie, she had a light blue, oversized smock on covered in different colors of paints and jean shorts that you could see just the bottoms of. “I bet you think that’s cute.” She said narrowing her eyes at him. “Not as cute as you Suzy homemaker.” Clare blushed at Eli’s comment before looking at his arms. “What in the world have you brought?” She asked with a laugh letting him into her house. He sat the bag down and pulled it open and retrieving his gift for her. “I heard your A/C was messed up so I brought you this.” It was one of the tall fans that Eli had kept in his closet but after cleaning it out he didnt need the extra one. Clare’s eyes went wide as she pulled the box to her chest. “You are heaven sent!” She couldnt take one more night of a humid room but as she read the features on the box she hadnt noticed Eli disappeared but the moment his feet creaked on the steps she looked at him. “NO!” She ran after him and Eli ran out of instinct tripping up the stairs and totally wiping out making Clare laugh. “Well that was easy.” She said through fits of laughter as she met him at the top of the steps.
